Reunions, Parties & Holidays
It's the start of the party season and fortunately for us our party time began with the 50th reunion of David's Onderstepoort class of 1968. It was a poignant start as the veterinarians gathered at the same auditorium where their results of their final exams were announced. Of the original 38 in the group, 7 have passed on and 21 joined the poignant reunion. We shared moments of quiet contemplation, laughter and fun.
Friends of ours flew out from the USA to join the celebration and we holidayed with them at Madikwe game reserve for 4 days of deep bush experience. Peter chose an 'eco-lodge' Masethala which offered rustic accommodation, eco-showers and loos and intense wind animal viewing. He wanted his wife Jeanette to enjoy a Real African Bush Experience. We've visited a number of eco-lodges and I believe this was the most challenging so far. We had to gather water from a 'donkey', heat it up and re-distribute it into the shower. One up from camping I think, but great fun if you change your mindset.
The game viewing was spectacular and we had a real 'close-to-Nature' time. Would we return? Yes I think we would. Our granddaughters are just the correct age to 'rough it' a bit - and yes that means little cell phone connectivity too. It would also be an opportunity to visit part of their heritage as my grandfather owned a cattle ranch called Mooigenoeg, which bordered Botswana and Madikwe which we visited while we were there. The house is now part of the anti poaching unit which is an appropriate way to honour the wildlife in the park.
Friends with Threads has its final meeting on Monday and with many well-knitted and crocheted articles this year we will be able to 'rest easy' until we begin again early in the new year. Thank you to everyone for the amazing support and contributions of time, effort and yarn.
Penfriends Studio is preparing for the end of year 'exam' and mini display. As always at this time of year I am relieved, surprised and delighted at the exceptional work students have achieved. Well done all and be amazed and proud of your excellent pieces.
Remember, when you're tired, rest don't quit and it's nearly time to take time out of our busy schedules, relax and re-connect.
Till next time, take care.
