70 Teddies & a Picnic

April 17, 2016

Much has happened over the past few weeks. I do confess that I turn 70 this year and instead of muddling along and wondering what I should do to 'make a fun party for all' I decided that my teddy turns 70 too and we should 'hold a picnic'. More importantly, some children apart from my own and my grandchildren should have some fun. So I compiled a letter to family and friends:

Teddy and I turn 70 this year and have shared many hugs, tears and laughter.

We feel it is important for everyone, especially children, to have a silent, huggable friend and confidant.

So we have decided to share our big day with 70 children and will organise a Teddy Bear’s Picnic sometime in September/October. We have chosen children who are cared for by Redzwane. She relocated her day care centre to a small house after the original home burned down a few years ago.

We invite you to crochet or knit a teddy (or two)which we will hand to the children at the celebration. For the picnic we have been donated chocolate chip muffins, juice for each child and cakes for the teachers.

Once all the teddies have been gathered, we will set a suitable date and everyone is welcome to join us at the school to share the celebration.

We have two ‘easy peasy’ teddy patterns:  one crocheted and one knitted. Please let me know which one you would prefer. Make your teddy as colourful as possible. To make it easier for you we suggest you use leftover scraps of wool. Once the teddy is completed please drop him (or her) off with us.

We would like them completed by Monday 12 September 2016.

Please let us know if you are able to join in the fun.

Warm wishes

Anne-Marie and Pink Ted

RSVP: amborine@me.com

PS: If you cannot make a teddy yourself, nominate a friend to help out or you may like to donate a small amount so we can buy wool to give to a willing teddy-bear maker.

The response has been overwhelming and we have teddies who will join us from all over the world.

Here are three teddies 'with hearts' made by dear friend Mouneen. Two were 'commissioned' and one was from her.

We've already been donated food and juice for the children and I know we will have a great deal of fun. If anyone reading this would love to make a teddy for the party, please contact me at the address above.

David and I have spent a wonderful few weekends away enjoying our cottage in the eastern Free State. Not only did we have cosmos (and family) over Easter, we had sunflowers, sheep, sunrises, sunsets and autumn colours this past weekend.

Our time in the Free State is always special. The bird-song filled mornings and spectacular sunsets are something that we treasure. Enjoy the images.

Until next time (and the counting of teddies)
